Country Week - 60 Years of AWESOMENESS!!!

What a fantastic weekend of squash at the 2026 WA Squash Country Week Teams Tournament! This year was especially significant as we celebrated the 60th year of Country Week. It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the history, traditions and memories that have made this event so special over the decades. We hope to continue building on that legacy for another 60 years of Country Week.

Ref's Rule - September 2026

We all hear about complaints regarding players being tardy with being on time to start fixtures, taking too long to prepare for a game, taking too long between games; all causing late finishes which is off-putting for some. The Rules of World Squash are quite specific regarding times and the responsibilities of the referee and players...

Vic Park Open

The 2026 Vic Park Open was another fantastic celebration of squash, bringing together players from across the community for a weekend of strong competition, close matches and great sportsmanship. There were so many five-set matches throughout the tournament that the organisers were starting to get a little stressed about keeping everything on schedule!

Autumn Monday Pennants - Grand Final

What a season. What a finish. What a brave little chicken shop, suddenly promoted from neighbourhood takeaway to official supplier of grand final recovery food. The Monday Night Pennants grand final was played on Monday 17 August, with the usual mix of excellent rallies, questionable tactical decisions, high-pressure point construction, and players pretending they were “just here for the nibbles”.

Interschool Competition

On 12 and 13 of August, we successfully held our Interschool Sports event, bringing together high school students from across multiple schools to promote physical activity, teamwork, healthy lifestyles and positive community engagement.

Coaches Corner - August 2026

From 30 August to 6 September, Western Australia is hosting the World Masters Squash Championships, bringing some of the world’s best Masters players to our courts. As a coach, I'm enjoying watching the quality of squash, but am equally interested in hearing how players had prepared. Their approaches varied according to age, physical condition, playing style and goals. Some prioritised fitness; others focused on court work, match play or recovery.

No Appointment Necessary - August 2026

A heart attack is a pain caused by a blockage of an artery that supplies blood to the heart and causes damage or death of the heart muscle.  Make sure your First Aid certification is up to date!!

A Weekend to Remember at the Leschenault Teams Tournament

The Leschenault Teams Tournament was an awesome weekend for all the juniors who took part. Run by Serena and MJ the trip gave us a great opportunity to play plenty of squash, meet new people and gain experience against players we wouldn’t normally get the chance to play.

2026 Leschenault Classic Teams

As the curtain falls on the 8th Edition of the Leschenault Classic Teams Challenge, we wanted to take a moment to say a heartfelt thank you to each and every one of the 63 players who joined us this weekend.

Ref's Rule - August 2026

With the World Masters Championships being held here in Perth, spare a thought for the official Referees who are refereeing the matches.

FeNaClNG 2026

The 2026 FeNaClNG Squash Tournament had 104 players representing 20 Clubs. The clubs from all over the state were Blue Gum, Broome, Bunbury, Busselton, Cambridge, Dampier, Eastern Goldfields, Exmouth, Geraldton, Karratha, Katanning, Leschenault, Mandurah, Manjimup, Mirrabooka, Narrogin, Port Hedland, Vic Park and Wickham.

Coaches Corner - July 2026

The first two sessions as a team training together has been very positive. Unfortunately WA has a shortage of players in certain age groups, in the GU19 we only have one player and we are pretty thin in other age groups. Fortunately, we are blessed with good numbers and talent in our ‘Youth’ group, which is good for the future. We are focused on building a positive team culture which is inclusive, and welcomes the support of the greater team and squash community.

Ref's Rule - July 2026

"Last month, I finished with: 'Ask yourself, as player, how many unforced errors you have made against the number of 'bad' decisions you consider the referee has made'. One of the reasons I became involved as a referee was closely related to the sentence above." This month, Neil tells us the story behind why he became a Referee...

State 35+ (Masters) Titles

The WA State 35+ (Masters) Championships was held at the State Centre in Belmont on the 17 and 18 July 2026.  This prestigious tournament has been running since 1982, a wonderful 45 years of history to date, with many notable winners. The tournament is unique in that divisions are age-based rather than ability-based, which means you may get to play anyone! This only occurs in Masters and Juniors on an annual basis - so this is a special tournament.

2026 State Junior Titles

Since graduating from juniors the tournament FOMO has been crippling, so when I was approached to direct the State titles this year, I was more than happy! Arguably the most prestigious event on the WA junior calendar and with one of our largest and strongest competitions yet, who wouldn't want a slice?

2026 State Junior Team Announced

With just 11 weeks until Nationals, the squad begins training under the guidance of Head Coach David Fear and Assistant Coaches Lisa Christou and Josh Blakey. Wearing the state colours is a fantastic achievement, and we can't wait to see what this team can do.

Coaches Corner - June 2026

“Squids” (Squash + Kids) is a fun, energetic introduction to squash for children aged three to eight, pioneered by Mirrabooka Squash Club. Built around play rather than formal coaching, it helps young children build confidence, coordination and a love of movement from their very first time on court.

Golden Open 2026

We are spoilt for write ups about this year's Golden Open!  Thanks so much to local clubby Miranda Cirulis and participant Andy Jones for taking the time to put together some stellar write ups!
