Where are they now? - Hannah Slyth

With the July State Junior Championships fast approaching, we’re looking back at our past champions to celebrate their success and see where their squash journeys have taken them today!

What title did you win at the 2024 State Junior Championships?

I won the Under 19 title at the 2024 WA State Junior Championships.

What can you remember of your successful run in 2024?

I went in as the number one seed and hadn’t lost to anyone in my draw for a number of years so there was definitely an expectation to win. I knew I’d put in the work leading up to it which gave me a lot of confidence going into each match.

Was there a moment in the tournament where you started to believe you could go all the way?

Having already won the same U/19 title in 2022, I knew I was capable of doing it again.

How much did your success help your confidence on the court following the State Junior Championships?

I flew to Houston a week later for the World Junior Championships so it was great to have that win under my belt going into an international event.

What’s one piece of advice you’d pass onto a participant this year?

Enjoy it, give 100% in every match and be aware that the level steps up significantly interstate so keep putting in the work to be more competitive at national events like AJC.

How has squash continued to be a major part of your life?

It’s given me so many opportunities, from meeting incredible people to travelling the world. It’s also played a huge role in shaping me as an athlete and a person, teaching me discipline, patience and perseverance through setbacks.
