With the July State Junior Championships fast approaching, we’re looking back at our past champions to celebrate their success and see where their squash journeys have taken them today!
What title did you win at the 2024 State Junior Championships?
I won the under 19s state junior championships.
What can you remember of your successful run in 2024?
I won the tournament pretty convincingly without dropping a game.
How much did your success help in your confidence on the court following the State Junior Championships?
I was preparing for a major event later that year, such as World Junior Championships in Houston, Texas which happened a week later and the Australian Junior Championships which I made the final of later that year and wasn't too far off from winning. My success in winning the state title gave me a little confidence booster that I was doing the right thing to progress my squash forward and upwards for those events later on that year.
What’s one piece of advice you’d pass onto a participant this year?
One piece of advice I would like to pass on is, improving in this sport isn't always about how many hours you put into it on court, it's also about the things you do off the court, and making sure you are having fun in all aspects of life, not just squash.
This is something I wish I knew sooner and had someone to tell me.
How has squash continued to be a major part of your life?
Squash is a major part of my life still and even though last year hasn't gone my way with me suffering a major injury where I completely ruptured my right Achilles tendon 11 months ago. But Squash has got me through to see some amazing places, nearly every city in Australia, and even a few major ones across the world and has allowed me to meet some amazing people along the way and plenty I still talk to around the world. Such as staying in England for 5 months before my injury with the Team Malik family and the Hill’s family in London. Even though I have had a pretty tough time for the last year. As I prepare to make my return to playing professionally, squash has allowed me to move to the Gold Coast and train at the high performance centre in Australia and train. I hope to make my return to the tour for the two Challenger tour events in Western Australia, Kalgoorlie Open and WA Open and then its onwards and upwards from there.
