With the July State Junior Championships fast approaching, we’re looking back at our past champions to celebrate their success and see where their squash journeys have taken them today!
What title did you win at the 2023 State Junior Championships?
U19 Girls State Junior Champion
What can you remember of your successful run in 2023?
I won U19 State Junior of the Year, I was captain of the WA squash team, it was my last year as a junior in squash and I also won Squash WA's Junior of the Year!
Was there a moment in the tournament where you started to believe you could go all the way?
As the tournament progressed, I started to feel more confident. I was a bit nervous, knowing it was my last state championship and how much I wanted to win the title, but after the first few games, I felt more confident in my routines and how I prepared for the tournament.
How much did your success help in your confidence on the court following the State Junior Championships?
Heaps!! I started to trust my game a lot more and learnt how to compose myself and maintain a positive mindset under the pressure
What’s one piece of advice you’d pass onto a participant this year?
I live by this quote ‘You don’t get what you deserve, you get what you earn, whether you win or lose, your friends and family will still love you, it’s no biggie’ I like how it summarises how important it is that you even though we play an individual sport we will always have a team by our side and how the support around us adds to our success and self worth!
How has squash continued to be a major part of your life?
I still try to get to as many country tournaments as I can which I really enjoy, it’s nice to focus on the recreational side of squash at this time in my life.
