Autumn Pennant Grand Finals a Success!

Published Tue 19 May 2026

A week ago, Marmion Squash Club at The Squash Factory hosted all grades of the Tuesday Night Pennant Grand Finals, Susan Cowell gave us an insight into the success that it was!

"Having the Grand Final fixture hosted by the Marmion Squash Club @ The Squash Factory created an atmosphere that we haven't encountered for many many years! We had our 4 central courts and then court 5 operating with players, supporters and local social players all watching on. Our social players just sat back and took it all in watching the State Grade and Division 1 players of whom they were very jealous for their athleticism and movement about the court. Quite often I heard the comment "Are you made of glass?" as I stopped to watch an intriguing rally!

The players overall seemed genuinely engaged in the format and with Belmont SC having a team on almost every court there was alot of support being given between the courts. Marmion members were very vocal on their support for our Div 2 teams and I am sure that was the reason they got over the line in their final match to win the pennant. With snacks and supper provided by Marmion SC and the bar facilities of The Squash Factory, everyone happily mingled with a beverage and food. State Grade was live streamed and we had that showing on our TV screen as well. With a small time delay I think at one stage they consulted the live stream to confirm a decision or two!!

Each court was worthy of their Grand Final status as each court depended on the 3rd matches to get the final result. With a large attentive audience the players lifted their games to match creating a really exciting atmosphere.  In talking to others during the night, everyone agreed that the semi-finals and Grand Finals for State Grade and the Tuesday Divisions be played at one venue (where possible - depending on the number of Divisions and court availability). By sharing the two evenings between the centres we hope this will foster more support and brings attention to the social players of the inter-club pennant competition. If none of the other clubs want to be host, Marmion SC @ The Squash Factory would be happy to do it each season!

This format is a great way to enhance squash and we support taking this format through all seasons and to all clubs.

A great idea!"
